Fantastic quirky and quaint.
The gatehouse was very clean and had everything we needed.
The place was lovely and warm with the wood burning stove a real bonus for our January stay.
The bed was comfortable and cosy. However the steps up and space around the bed required a level of flexibility. Carry things up to bed was a challenge meaning breakfast in bed was not an option.
The kitchen was well equipped. We cooked a roast dinner and had all the equipment needed. The gatehouse is close enough to Chepstow to get takeaway delivered. Eastern Flavas do a great job if you fancy Indian.
The shower room was a bit quirky. There were plenty of lovely towels and bath robes which was a nice touch.
Overall a great stay.

Such a beautiful place to stay. Wonderfully quiet and tucked away but still accessible to shops and attractions. Would definitely stay again

Stunning location and accommodation. Host was nice and left a care package and card (as it was my 50th birthday) There were enough provisions to have tea and coffee and the care package included bread, butter, jams and some other snacks, so if you arrive late you at least don't have to worry about breakfast. There were other nice personal touches but I don't want to ruin expectations for others
Be prepared for a bit of a hike as there are 29 narrow steps to reach the accommodation
My only gripe would be I didn't sleep well as the pillows were a bit flat and the mattress was too firm for me, but I love my own bed, so it wouldn't be fair to dissuade visiting just on that basis, the ladder to the bedroom could do with some stair grip as they are glossed, so very slippy coming down, especially in the dark!
Other than that it was a lovely stay, and we visited lots of places we've never been to (Bath is lovely) Thanks to Juliet and the team

We stayed here for the weekend, and wow! What a find. It's such a lovely building, bursting with character and charm.
The owners provided everything you'd need for your stay, and were easy to contact without being intrusive.
The spiral staircase into the building, and the ladder to the bed chamber would be the only thing to take into consideration when booking.
I will definitely be coming back, and am happy to recommend staying here.

We Had the most amazing time away at the Welsh gate house, was perfect for us to enjoy quality time together, and too see the beautiful surroundings, juliet and her team leave nothing uncovered you literally have everything you need at the Welsh Gatehouse from the perfect little welcome hamper and bottle of champagne 🍾 to a folder of all the local walks with directions and info of each and every walk, a brilliant and well thought out manual with instructions and tips for the lighting the fire, how to manage the heating/ water and so much more !
We will 100% be going back as soon as we can to stay in the beautiful castle and to visit some more local areas we highly recommend staying here.
Thankyou and see you again soon

The Gatehouse is a fabulous building that oozes history and charm. The real fire is great in winter and the view from the turret is wonderful. It's a great location with the Wye Valley, Offa's Dyke and Tintern Abbey very close by. The spiral staircase is quite steep and to get to the mezzanine bedroom you have to climb a sharply inclined ladder. However, I'd thoroughly recommend a stay at anytime of year.

What an amazing stay we had at the Welsh Gatehouse, this place is magical. If you book to stay here you'll see that the entrance stairs are a very thin spiral staircase, so not for the faint hearted, plus to get into the large and comfortable double bed you need to climb a large and sturdy ladder and duck under a beam, I'm only saying this to inform people, not because they were a negative, in fact they add to the absolute charm of this place. We had the run of the whole gatehouse, all the wood we could burn in the wonderful fireplace burner and a nice welcome package of bread, milk and preserves. The gatehouse is only a 5 - 10 min walk from the local pub which was very welcoming and served excellent food and beers. In the welcome book there was a long list of cab numbers, we got through a few before we found a free cab, but they were with us in around 20 minutes, we didn't fancy the 50 minute hilly walk into town, so we got cabs at around £10 each way. The local walks are great and again the welcome book had loads of info on places to walk and visit. I would highly recommend this place, it's a fairy tail location, with it's own tower to climb up to and see the rolling hills.

Beautiful historic property in South Wales! This stay is truly one-of-a-kind.
Juliet is a terrific host and the accommodations are spectacular. She was super easy to communicate with, and was very flexible. You can tell she loves this property and truly cares about her guests: a welcome email; detailed directions to the location; super responsive via text as well; a welcome basket including Welsh cakes and a bottle of wine (among other things)--even complimentary post cards; and so much more!
If you're looking for a romantic getaway or to be immersed in 12th century history, book a stay at The Welsh Gatehouse. The historic architecture (as seen at local 12th century Tintern Abbey as well) paired with the well maintained modern amenities of today makes for magnificent experience. This is a peaceful stay, close to local restaurants and points of interest. I would highly recommend a historic night or two at Juliet's 12th Century Welsh Gatehouse :)

Booking the accommodation and an extra night was very easy. Juliet and William have thought of all our needs and allowed us to maintain our privacy, and theirs. A little gem of a find, very unique, especially the access to the turret.

A gate house from the 13th century turned into a stunning charming airbnb, located in a very private location im Wales, the surroundings are very pretty, woods and green fields and you could also see the river.

What a wonderful place to stay. We arrived around 2pm and found the information on how to access the apartment to be very accurate. On letting ourselves in we were faced by a narrow spiral staircase. This is a little tricky to get up, the steps are narrow and made of stone and wood. Don't think about trying to bring up a big case, you will fail!
Up the stairs we entered the apartment and how wonderful that is. A nice big sofa facing a log burner (logs etc all to hand) and a small easy chair. A nice big table which had a great basket of treats, bread, jam Welsh cakes, wine, also some postcards and instruction manual and visitor book.
The kitchen area is good with everything you would want. The fridge was kindly stocked with butter and milk.
On this same floor was a basic but clean bathroom. Plenty of towels and some soap, shower bits.
The bedroom is accessed by a ladder type stairs, not to be attempted after drinking the wine and best tackled sober when getting down! The bed is a double and as the ceiling is low its basically on the floor. Take care in the area, plenty of chances to bang your head! We didn't find the bed that comfy but the guest book seems to indicate we are very much in the minority.
Back out of the apartment door and up the stairs some more you get to a storage/ironing room. Up again and you get a spectacular rooftop view, no high heals!
The location is perfect (verh close to the old motorway but if didn't bother us) and we would come back again. Excellent.

We love this place after only an hour here. Very castle like. Very well cared for. It’s quiet but not far from the rest of the world. We are expecting a big storm but will be safe in our tower.
